Why and how do I write a 13 week outline for my show?
Here at LITR the 13 week outline is a necessary step in the approval process for a host. The outline allows the host to express their ideas about how the show would flow from week to week.
Although the outline is an orgainic approach it allows the host to conceptualize the topic, subtopics, and possible guests that may be come part of the program. Its not necessary to prvide a re-write of "War and Peace", but a line or two of description regarding each sub-topic would greatly enhance clarity so that my partner, David Korus and I can get a feel for the direction the program would take.
One definite must in develping the name for your LITR radio show is to look at the products, books, other media titles you have produced, or the name of your company for inspiration. Some of the most successful shows are branded this way.
The reason is that naming your show the same name as you are currently using for something else ties into and extends your branding efforts and further aligns your marketing efforts.
Now create thirteen subtitles for each week. Try to play off the title with simple yet catchy relates or extensions of the name of the show. The more you are able to do this, the relevance you create in a person's mind whether they read it or hear. Repetition and referring them back to the main theme is the key.
When working with a subtitle section, it is important to use a line or two of description to provide enough information while still leaving the reader, us, wanting more. This is the foundation of any communication especially books, articles, screenplays, scripts, and of course the 13 week outline.
Finally, your guest list. Plan on having at least 3-4 high profile, highly visible guests on your show. Not only are they additional pr opportunities but with the cooperation of the guests, their email list is an opportune time to promote and align yourself with a powerful force in your field. Like mom used to say, "I can tell what kind of person you are by the company that you keep".
